OBJECTIVE: THIS PROPOSED WORK WILL DEVELOP A PASSIVE MAGNETIC HEAT SWITCH (PMHS) THAT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO ENABLE IMPROVED SPACECRAFT THERMAL CONTROL. BY UTILIZING TEMPERATURE (T)-DEPENDENT MAGNETIC FORCES TO BRING PERMANENT MAGNETS IN AND OUT OF PHYSICAL CONTACT WITHOUT EXTERNAL POWER CONSUMPTION PI WEHMEYER S RESEARCH TEAM WILL DEMONSTRATE COMPACT HEAT SWITCHING WITH HIGH THERMAL CONDUCTANCE TURNDOWN RATIOS (R>400:1) ACROSS THE NARROW SWITCHING T RANGE (-15 TO +15 C) REQUIRED FOR SPACECRAFT THERMAL MANAGEMENT.
