THE PROPOSAL WILL ADDRESS THE RISKS OF HUMAN DEEP SPACE EXPLORATION IS CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (CNS) DAMAGE WHICH IS ASSOCIATED WITH NEURONAL DAMAGE AND NEURO-INFLAMMATION CAUSED BY EXPOSURE TO SPACE RADIATION COMBINED WITH MICROGRAVITY AND CAN LEAD TO COGNITIVE AND BEHAVIORAL DYSFUNCTION. THE PI WILL ELUCIDATE IF GCR EXPOSED ASTROYCTES HAVE BENEFICIAL OR NEUROTOXIC FUNCTIONS UPON NEURONS WHICH COULD POTENTIATE THE FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF CELL-SPECIFIC COUNTERMEASURES TO EITHER HARNESS OR RESTRAIN SPECIFIC MODALITIES OF ASTROCYTES TO PREVENT NEUROTOXIC OUTCOMES.
