IT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROPOSAL TO ENHANCE THE SUPRATHERMAL ION DATA SET DERIVED FROM THE WIND STICS SENSOR THROUGHOUT THE WIND MISSION. STICS MEASUREMENTS ARE TRULY UNIQUE AS STICS PROVIDES THE ONLY MEASUREMENT OF MASS AND CHARGE RESOLVED HEAVY IONS AT SUPRATHERMAL ENERGIES UP TO 230KEV/E. WE PROPOSE TO DEVELOP AN EXTENDED SET OF SUPRATHERMAL ION COMPOSITION DATA WITHIN 1 YEAR. THIS ENHANCEMENT WILL NOT BE ACHIEVABLE AT THE CURRENT DATA ANALYSIS FUNDING LEVEL WITHIN A SIMILARLY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. WE HAVE ESTABLISHED A PLAN TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENTS FROM DR. JACOB GRUESBECK AS PART OF HIS PH.D. THESIS. BASED ON THIS PLAN WE PLAN TO DEVELOP WIND STICS DATA PRODUCTS DESCRIBED IN TABLE 2 FOR PUBLIC DISSEMINATION. WE EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO PERFORM THIS TASK FOR $30K. THIS MONEY WILL SUPPORT AN ASSISTANT RESEARCH SCIENTIST DR. LIANG ZHAO WHO WILL DO THE MAJORITY OF THE WORK AND A PROFESSOR DR. SUSAN LEPRI WHO WILL GUIDE DR. ZHAO THROUGH VALIDATION.
