V2672 OPH: AN OLD NOVA WITH A LUMINOUS AND ABSORBED X-RAY EMISSION OUR RECENT CHANDRA OBSERVATION SHOWS THAT V2672 OPH (NOVA OPHIUCHI 2009) IS A BRIGHT X-RAY SOURCE IN QUIESCENCE SEVERAL ORDERS OF MAGNITUDES MORE LUMINOUS THAN ORDINARY NON-MAGNETIC CATACLYSMIC VARIABLES. THIS CONFIRMS THE TENTATIVE ASSOCIATION OF A ROSAT ALL-SKY SURVEY SOURCE WITH V2672 OPH MAKING IT THE THIRD NOVA WITH PRE-ERUPTI N X-RAY DETECTION. IT HAD ONE OF THE SHORTEST DECAY TIMES AND THE BROADEST EMISSION LINES EVER OBSERVED IN NOVAE AND IS THEREFORE VERY LIKELY TO BE A RECURRENT NOVA. HERE WE PROPOSE A FOLLOW-UP XMM-NEWTON OBSERVATION OF V2672 OPH DESIGNED TO SECURE 10 TIMES MORE SOURCE PHOTONS THAN WERE OBTAINED WITH CHANDRA SO AS TO CHARACTERIZE ITS X-RAY SPECTRUM AND TIMING PROPERTIES AS A PART OF A BROADER STUDY OF MASS ACCRETION IN CONFIRMED AND CANDIDATE RECURRENT NOVAE.
