THE MULTI-SLIT OPTIMIZED SPECTROMETER (MOS) IS A PROTOTYPE OF A SIGNIFICANTLY SMALLER COASTAL IMAGING SPECTROMETER THAT MEETS THE OCEAN COLOR MEASUREMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NASA GEOSTATIONARY COASTAL AND AIR POLLUTION EVENTS (GEO-CAPE) MISSION WHICH IS CURRENTLY IN A PRE-PHASE A DEVELOPMENT FOR A POSSIBLE MISSION IN THE 2020+ TIMEFRAME. WE SUPPORTED WILLIAM GOOD AND THE TEAM AT BALL AEROSPACE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MOS IMAGER INCLUDING DEVELOPING THE PROCESSING SOFTWARE TO PRODUCE OCEAN PRODUCTS FROM THE CALIBRATED RADIANCE DATA. IN MAY OF 2016 MOS WAS FLOWN SIDE-BY-SIDE WITH GEO-TASO FOR THE KORUS-OC EXPERIMENT. MOS WAS CONFIGURED WITH ONE SLIT OPEN AND POLARIZERS OVER THE REMAINING THREE SLITS TO MEASURE THE POLARIZATION STATE (MOS-P) OF THE ATMOSPHERE AND OCEAN. THE KORUS-OC EXPERIMENT WITH GEO-TASO AND MOS PROVIDES A DETAILED LOOK AT BOTH THE SPECTRAL AND POLARIZATION STATE OF AEROSOLS TRACE GASSES AND OCEAN SCENES. HERE WE PROPOSE TO PROCESS THE MOS-P DATA AND ANALYZE THE COMBINED DATA SET VALIDATED WITH KORUS-OC IN SITU DATA TO UNDERSTAND THE INTERACTION OF THE ATMOSPHERIC AND OCEANIC PROPERTIES AND HELP DESIGN THE BEST POSSIBLE INSTRUMENT FOR GEO-CAPE.
