THE PROPOSED GRADUATE STUDENT S EFFORT WILL BE COVERED VIA SYNERGISTIC WORK ONGOING AT NASA MSFC THAT IS FUNDED THROUGH PLANNED OPERATIONAL LIS ACTIVITIES OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS. THE TEAM WILL ADVISE AND GUIDE THE GRADUATE STUDENT S RESEARCH. AT NASA MSFC REQUEST 0.20 FULL-TIME EQUIVALENT (FTE) PER YEAR FOR PI GATLIN TO OVERSEE THE PROPOSED WORK PROVIDE RESEARCH GUIDANCE TO THE PROPOSED GRADUATE STUDENT AS WELL AS PERFORM SOME MINIMAL DATA ANALYSIS (E.G. PROVIDE CODE TO INTERROGATE LIGHTNING ENRICHED GPM PF DATABASE). WE ALSO REQUEST 0.1 FTE FOR CO-I CECIL AND 0.1 FTE FOR CO-I PETERSEN AT NASA MSFC TO ASSIST WITH GLM AND GPM MEASUREMENT INTERPRETATION DURING YEAR 1 AND INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS FROM PROPOSED RESEARCH IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS. THE PROPOSED EFFORTS AT MSFC DURING THE FIRST YEAR WILL INVOLVE PROJECT OVERSIGHT/COORDINATION AS WELL AS PROVIDING CO-I LIU WITH GLM DATA AND REQUIRED PRODUCT INTERPRETATIONS AS TAMU-CC. IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS MSFC WILL PERFORM THE PROPOSED DATA ANALYSIS. AT TEXAS A&M-CORPUS CHRISTI (TAMU-CC) REQUEST HALF MONTH PER YEAR EFFORT (0.04 FTE) FROM CO- PI CHUNTAO LIU FOR SUPERVISING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PF ALGORITHMS/WORKFLOW TO INCLUDE THE SATELLITEBASED LIGHTNING DATA AND PASSIVE MICROWAVE MEMBERS OF THE GPM CONSTELLATION. ALSO A 4-MONTH PER YEAR (0.33 FTE) SALARY IS REQUESTED FOR A RESEARCH ASSOCIATE AT TAMU-CC TO DEVELOP THE PROPOSED WORKFLOW FOR DEFINING THE PFS AND INCORPORATING SATELLITE-BASED LIGHTNING DATA INTO THE PFS. CO-I LIU WILL COORDINATE WITH DR. STOCKER DURING YEARS 2 AND 3 TO INCORPORATE THE PROPOSED ENHANCEMENTS TO THE GPM PF WORKFLOW AT PPS. DR. STOCKER HAS AGREED TO IMPLEMENT OUR PROPOSED ENHANCEMENTS TO THE GPM PF DATABASE MAINTAINED AT PPS WHICH IS WITHIN THE SCOPE OF HIS DUTIES AS NASA S GPM PROJECT SCIENTIST FOR DATA AND PPS PROJECT MANAGER.
