THE PRIMARY GOAL IS TO DETERMINE THE CORONAL PLASMA AND MAGNETIC FIELD DURING THE PERIHELION PASSAGE OF A SUN-GRAZING COMET. MORE SPECIFICALLY THIS PROJECT WILL (1) DETERMINE THE PLASMA AND FIELD CONDITIONS THAT CAUSED THE APPEARANCE RELATIVE MOTION AND LIFETIME OF THE MATERIALS IN THE COMET TAIL AND (2) SYNTHESIZE THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS CORONAL CONDITIONS ON THE APPEARANCE OF A COMET AT HELIOCENTRIC DISTANCES OF 1-3 R_SUN. ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS TO BE ADDRESSED ARE (3) WHERE DO THE STRIATIONS COME FROM? DO THEY SHOW DENSITY FLUCTUATIONS IN THE CORONA OR ARE THEY A RESULT OF THE BREAKUP AND DISRUPTION OF THE COMET? (4) WHETHER THE ABUNDANCE ANOMALIES COULD BE SEEN IN SOLAR WIND MEASUREMENTS AT 1 AU SOLAR ORBITER AND SOLAR PROBE PLUS.
