THIS IS A SOLICITED SOLE SOURCE PROPOSAL TO CONTINUE WORK AS A COMMUNITY CO-CHAIR ON THE NASA ASTROPHYSICS DECADAL STUDIES FOR THE LARGE ULTRA-VIOLET/OPTICAL/INFRA-RED (LUVOIR) SURVEY TELESCOPE DURING THE 2017 2018 AND 2019 SUMMER ACADEMIC BREAKS. THE LARGE UV-OPTICAL-INFRARED (LUVOIR) SURVEYOR IS ONE OF FOUR NASA MISSION CONCEPTS UNDER STUDY FOR THE 2020 ASTROPHYSICS DECADAL SURVEY. THE TELESCOPE WOULD BE LOCATED AT L1 OR L2 AND DESIGNED FOR DECADES OF USE AS A SERVICEABLE SPACE OBSERVATORY. THE TELESCOPE MUST BE CAPABLE OF ADVANCING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF COSMIC ORIGINS EXOPLANETS AND THE SOLAR SYSTEM FAR BEYOND WHAT WILL BE ACHIEVED BY THE NEXT TWO DECADES OF OBSERVATIONS FROM OTHER SPACE- OR GROUND-BASED FACILITIES. LUVOIR WILL ADVANCE OUR UNDERSTANDING OF COSMIC ORIGINS MAKE SIGNIFICANT ASTROBIOLOGICAL DISCOVERIES HAVING TO DO WITH THE ORIGINS OF AND EVOLUTION OF MATERIAL INCORPORATED INTO PLANETARY BODIES THE SEARCH FOR SIGNS OF HABITABILITY AND LIFE ON EXOPLANETS AND DETAILED SPATIAL MAPPING OF HABITABLE ENVIRONMENTS WITHIN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM. THE ROLE OF THE COMMUNITY CO-CHAIR IS TO PROVIDE (WITH THE NASA STUDY SCIENTIST) OVERSIGHT COORDINATION AND ORGANIZATION OF THE SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY DEFINITION TEAM (STDT). THE STDT CARRIES OUT THE STUDIES NEEDED TO DEFINE THE SCIENTIFIC GOALS AND TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES OF LUVOIR. THESE INCLUDE INSTRUMENT CONCEPT STUDIES THAT HAVE SUFFICIENT SPECIFICATIONS FOR COST AND TECHNICAL EVALUATION (CATE) TECHNICAL TRADE STUDIES AND SIMULATIONS FOR EVALUATING DESIGN TRADE-OFFS. THE COMMUNITY CO-CHAIR IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR COMMUNICATING THESE RESULTS TO THE BROADER COMMUNITY (THROUGH PROFESSIONAL MEETINGS AND PUBLICATIONS). THE WORK OF THE LUVOIR COMMUNITY CO-CHAIR IS DIRECTLY ALIGNED WITH THE OBJECTIVES AND INTERESTS OF NASA TO ENSURE IDENTIFICATION OF NEXT GENERATION SPACE MISSIONS THAT ARE SCIENTIFICALLY RELEVANT AND TECHNOLOGICALLY CAPABLE. THIS WORK WILL ENSURE CONTINUED UNINTERRUPTED SUPPORT OF THE SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY DEFINITION TEAM (STDT) FOR SCIENTIFIC GOALS AND THE TELESCOPE AND INSTRUMENT DESIGN STUDIES. THE FINAL PRODUCT OF OUR STUDY WILL BE A REPORT TO THE 2020 DECADAL STUDIES COMMITTEE.
