THIS SELECTED K2 PROGRAM (K2GO3_2-0040) PROPOSED TO OBSERVE 84 TARGETS IN THE K2 CAMPAIGN 8 AND 10 FIELDS WITH MARKERS OF CHROMOSPHERIC ACTIVITY. THE GOAL OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO SEARCH FOR PLANETS AROUND THESE STARS THAT MAY BE FUTURE CANDIDATES OF FOLLOW-UP SPECTROSCOPIC INVESTIGATIONS TO DETERMINE IF CHROMOSPHERIC ACTIVITY HAS AN IMPACT ON THEEXTENDED ATMOSPHERE (THE EXOSPHERE) OF THE PLANET. THE DATA WILL BE ANALYZED THROUGH STANDARD REDUCTION AND DETRENDING TECHNIQUES APPLIED TO THE K2 DATA. MULTIPLE MEMBERS OF THE TEAM (CO-IS ENDL AND REDFIELD) HAVE EXPERIENCE IN KEPLER DATA. THE TEAM HAS THE COMPUTING AND SOFTWARE RESOURCES TO HANDLE THIS DATA SET IN PLACE; HIGHER-LEVEL ANALYSIS WILL BE DONE WITH IDL SOFTWARE PACKAGES. THE FIRST OBJECTIVE IS TO SEARCH THROUGH THE REDUCED AND DETRENDED DATA TO LOOK FORSHORT-PERIOD PLANETS IN THE DATA. THE SECOND OBJECTIVE WILL BE TO DO A BROAD CHARACTERIZATION OF THE LONG-TERM LIGHT CURVES OF THE STARS IN AN ATTEMPT TO UNDERSTAND STELLAR ACTIVITY. FINALLY ANY TARGETS WHERE PLANETS ARE FOUND WILL BE ASSESSED FOR SPECTROSCOPIC FOLLOW-UP. THE PROPOSING TEAM HAS ACCESS TO AND/OR HAS SUCCESSFULLY APPLIED FOR HIGH-RESOLUTION SPECTROSCOPIC OBSERVATIONS USING THE KECK I TELESCOPE (HIRES) AND THE HOBBY-EBERLY TELESCOPE (HRS) IN THE PAST.
