THIS 6 MONTH PROJECT PERIOD WILL ENCOMPASS THE GROUND BASED EXPERIMENTS AS DEFINED IN THE SPORESAT2 FULL PROPOSAL SUBMITTED JUNE 9 2014. THE SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL OBJECTIVES REMAIN CONSISTENT WITH THE ORIGINAL SPORESAT1 PROJECT PROPOSAL. PURDUE UNIVERSITY WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PRODUCING AND DELIVERING THE BIOCD CALCIUM ION SENSING CHIP TO AMES FOR INTEGRATION WITH FERN SPORES BOTH WILD TYPE AND MUTANT PRODUCED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AUSTIN TEAM. BASED ON FEEDBACK WE HAVE INCREASED THE NUMBER OF BIOCDS PRODUCED FROM 16 TO 22 TO ACCOMMODATE THE MUTANT SPORES TEST THE NEWLY AVAILABLE HN-N SPORES AND ALLOW FOR SUFFICIENT TESTING ON THE GROUND INCLUDING VALIDATION OF ENGINEERING CHANGES MADE IN RESPONSE TO FAILURE REVIEW BOARD CONCLUSIONS AFTER SPORESAT1 MISSION. THE BIOCD / SPORE / DATA ACQUISITION INTEGRATED GROUND UNIT WILL BE USED TO CONDUCT BOTH ZERO DAY AND BIOCOMPATIBILITY TESTS WITH THE WILD TYPE AND MUTANT SPORES. A KEY MEMBER OF THE SPORESAT1 PURDUE TEAM WHO PRODUCED PRIOR BIOCDS WILL REMAIN ON THE PROJECT IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE RISK AND DELAYS IN BIOCD PRODUCTION.
