THIS STUDY WILL PROVIDE PREVIOUSLY UNIMAGINED INSIGHTS INTO THE HISTORY OF LUNAR SPINELRICHLITHOLOGIES. THE LONG-TERM GOALS IN THIS RESEARCH ARE (1) TO PROVIDE CONSTRAINTS ON THE ORIGINAND FORMATION HISTORY(S) OF MG-AL SPINEL-RICH LUNAR HIGHLAND SAMPLES BY DETAILED PETROLOGIC GEOCHEMICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS AND THUS TO PROVIDE IMPORTANT IMPLICATIONS FOR THECOMPOSITIONAL STRUCTURE OF THE LUNAR CRUST AND (2) TO OFFER A CRUCIAL LINK BETWEEN THE SMALL-SCALEPERSPECTIVE OF ROCKS AND METEORITES AND THE GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE OF ORBITAL REMOTE SENSING. THERESULTS WILL PROVIDE NEW CONSTRAINTS ON THE PETROGENESIS OF SPINEL-BEARING ROCKS ON THE MOON PRODUCE A NEW EXPERIMENTAL DATASET FOR CALIBRATION AND QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF LUNAR REMOTEREFLECTANCE SPECTRA AND ULTIMATELY CONTRIBUTE TO UNDERSTANDING THE PETROLOGIC AND COMPOSITIONALEVOLUTION OF THE MOON
