THIS IS A PROPOSAL REQUESTING FUNDING TO DECIPHER THE PETROGENESIS OF LUNAR MARTIAN AND ASTEROID SAMPLES USING A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY APPROACH. THIS PROPOSAL FOCUSES UPON 4 SCIENCE TASKS FOR OUR RESEARCH TEAM. THESE TASKS INCLUDE: 1) INTERPRET THE HISTORY AND CONDITIONS OF MARTIAN BASALT CRYSTALLIZATION THROUGH CRYSTAL CHEMICAL STUDIES OF THE PARTITIONING BEHAVIOR OF MULTI-VALENCE CATIONS (EU V AND CR) BETWEEN PHOSPHATES-BASALTIC MELTS OLIVINE-BASALTIC MELTS AND DURING MARTIAN BASALT CRYSTALLIZATION 2) DECIPHER THE ORIGIN AND EVOLUTION OF THE LUNAR CRUST AND MANTLE USING INTEGRATED PETROLOGY-TIMS STUDIES TO PROVIDE CRYSTALLIZATION AGES AND TO PLACE THESE AGES WITHIN PETROLOGIC AND GEOCHEMICAL CONTEXT 3) ASSESS IMPORTANT CRYSTAL CHEMISTRY FACTORS THAT ARE RELEVANT TO THE MINERALOGY AND GEOCHEMISTRY OF THE MARTIAN MANTLE AND 4) CONSTRAIN THE PETROGENESIS AND CHRONOLOGY OF METEORITES GRA 06129-06128 AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO BRACHINITES. THESE MULTI-FACETED STUDIES WILL SIGNIFICANTLY ENHANCE OUR UNDERSTANDING OF PLANETARY MAGMATISM AND PROVIDE FUNDAMENTAL INSIGHTS INTO PLANETARY EVOLUTION. THESE TASKS ARE HIGHLY RELEVANT TO MANY GOALS IDENTIFIED IN THE NRC PLANETARY SCIENCE DECADAL SURVEY (2013-2022) FOR THE TERRESTRIAL PLANETS AND SMALL BODIES AND ARE WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE COSMOCHEMISTRY PROGRAM.
