STUDIES OF MARTIAN BASALTIC BRECCIA NWA 7034"STUDIES OF MARTIAN BASALTIC BRECCIA NWA 7034" IS PROPOSED TO ELUCIDATE THE ORIGIN AND MAKE-UP OF THIS UNIQUE METEORITE AND TO SHED LIGHT ON THE PROCESSES THAT FORMED IT ON MARS. PETROLOGY OF NWA 7034 IS THE MAIN FOCUS OF THIS PROPOSAL WITH THE FOLLOWING TASKS: 1) IGNEOUS CLASTS AND PHENOCRYSTS 2) SPHERULES AND ALTERATION CLASTS 3) OXYGEN FUGACITY 4) HYDROUS PHASES AND DISTRIBUTION OF WATER. WE ALSO PROPOSE THREE NWA 7034 TASKS THAT WOULD BE SUBCONTRACT COLLABORATIONS WITH UC DAVIS: 1) X-RAY AND NEUTRON TOMOGRAPHY 2) ULTRA-HIGH PRECISION CR-ISOTOPE MEASUREMENTS AND 3) SM-ND AND LU-HF AGE DATING. NWA 7034 IS THE FIRST AND ONLY MARTIAN METEORITE TO MATCH THE GEOCHEMISTRY OF THE SURFACE MATERIALS ON MARS AS MEASURED BY NASA'S ROVERS. THUS THIS PROPOSAL IS CLEARLY RELEVANT TONASA'S INTEREST IN PROPOSALS FOR SAMPLE FOCUSED RESEARCH PROJECTS THAT CLOSELY SUPPORT ITS MISSIONS FOR EXPLORING THE SOLAR SYSTEM OR THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF FUTURE MISSIONS. IN PARTICULAR THIS PROPOSAL MATCHES WELL WITH RESEARCH SUPPORTED BY THE COSMOCHEMISTRY PROGRAM E.G: MEASUREMENTS OF MINERAL COMPOSITIONS MAJOR AND TRACE ELEMENT CHEMISTRY ISOTOPIC COMPOSITIONS RADIOMETRIC AGES AND PETROLOGIC STUDIES OF EXTRATERRESTRIAL MATERIAL.
