DE-FOA-0002784: EXPLORATORY TOPIC H: SUBSURFACE ENGINEERING FOR HYDROGEN RESERVOIR MANAGEMENT (ENGINEERING) PROJECT TITLE: SUBSURFACE ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS AND MANAGEMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE IN-SITU HYDROGEN PRODUCTION AND ECONOMIC EXTRACTION THIS PROJECT WILL INTEGRATE TASKS ON THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: SUBSURFACE ENGINEERING; ECONOMIC EXTRACTION VIA LAB TESTING AND MODELING; DOWN-HOLE GAS SEPARATION, RISK MITIGATION TO AVOID HARMFUL SIDE EFFECTS AND TO ASSESS INDUCED SEISMICITY AND TO DETERMINE POTENTIAL IMPACTS TO FLORA AND FAUNA, FOR AND PREVENTION AND MITIGATION OF HYDROGEN LEAKAGE; NUMERICAL MODELING FOR MANAGING AND PREDICTING VIABILITY OF SUBSURFACE RESOURCES FOR STIMULATED HYDROGEN GENERATION; AND METHODS TO MAP SUBSURFACE AND OCEAN FLOOR RESOURCES (E.G., ULTRAMAFIC FORMATIONS OR OTHER CANDIDATE FORMATIONS) TO QUANTIFY PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF INTEREST. OUTCOMES WILL INCLUDE METHODS FOR IMPROVED SUCCESS OF FINDING ENHANCED SERPENTINIZATION CANDIDATE FORMATIONS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND EXTRACTION OF HYDROGEN IN A SAFE AND SUSTAINABLE FRAMEWORK.
