UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA BOARD OF TRUSTEES NEW ULTRAFAST AWARD CONTROL NUMBER: 2998-1571 TITLE: A 3.3KV/200A 70KHZ HALF BRIDGE SIC POWER MODULE WITH LOW EMI, LOW POWER LOSS, GOOD THERMAL MANAGEMENT AND HIGH RELIABILITY UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA WILL DEVELOP TECHNOLOGIES FOR A SIC POWER MODULE WITH LOW EMI, LOW POWER LOSS, GOOD THERMAL MANAGEMENT, AND HIGH RELIABILITY FOR THE BUILDING BLOCKS IN THE CONTROL INFRASTRUCTURE OF FUTURE POWER GRIDS. MORE SPECIFICALLY, THEY WILL DEVELOP AN ADVANCED INTERDISCIPLINARY SOLUTION FOR SIC POWER MODULES TO ACHIEVE EMI SELF-CONTAINMENT, SWITCHING POWER LOSS REDUCTION, LOW THERMAL RESISTANCE, HIGH JUNCTION TEMPERATURE, HIGH PARTIAL DISCHARGE INCEPTION VOLTAGE AND ONLINE CONDITION MONITORING. THE PROPOSED RESEARCH WILL CARRY OUT A CONVERGENT INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDY THAT LEADS TO FUNDAMENTAL BREAKTHROUGHS IN DEVELOPING THE MOST ADVANCED WIDE BANDGAP POWER MODULES WITH HIGH ENERGY EFFICIENCY, SELF-CONTAINED EMI, SUPERIOR THERMAL PERFORMANCE, AND HIGHLY IMPROVED RELIABILITY. THE SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROPOSED TECHNOLOGIES WILL REMOVE BARRIERS AND FACILITATE THE WIDE ADOPTION OF SIC POWER MODULES IN POWER GRIDS AND OTHER POWER APPLICATIONS.
