THIS COMPETITIVE COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT FOR A RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PROJECT ENTITLED, “HYDRONET: INTEGRATED PHOTONIC SYSTEM FOR HYDROGEN LEAK LOCALIZATION, QUANTIFICATION AND MONITORING” IS AWARDED TO PRINCETON UNIVERSITY UNDER ARPA-E FOA NUMBER DE-FOA-0002785 (H2SENSE) AND CONTROL NUMBER 2784-1896. THE PURPOSE OF THIS AWARD IS TO PROPOSE AN INTEGRATED SENSING SYSTEM FOR THE DETECTION, LOCALIZATION, AND LONG-TERM MONITORING OF HYDROGEN LEAKS FROM ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE. THE SENSING SYSTEM COMPOSES OF A DRONE-BASED SENSOR FOR RAPID LEAK QUANTIFICATION AND LOCALIZATION, AND INEXPENSIVE, FIBER OPTIC-BASED SENSORS THAT COULD BE PART OF A WIRELESS NETWORK FOR CONTINUOUS AND LONG-TERM MONITORING. BOTH APPROACHES ARE BASED UPON NOVEL PHOTONIC ADVANCES WITH HIGH SELECTIVITY AND SENSITIVITY. THE DRONE-BASED SENSOR IS OPTIMIZED FOR HIGH FREQUENCY MEASUREMENTS AND PRECISION WHILE MAINTAINING SUFFICIENTLY LOW MASS AND POWER, WHILE THE NETWORK SENSOR NODES ARE OPTIMIZED FOR MANUFACTURABILITY AND COST EFFICIENCIES.
