THE GOAL/OBJECTIVE OF HVDC-LEARN IS TO DEVELOP AND USE EDUCATIONAL MODULES TO ELEVATE THE ELECTRIC POWER COMMUNITY’S AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE HVDC DOMAIN TO INCREASE HVDC DEPLOYMENT AS A TRANSMISSION SOLUTION. WE USE “ELECTRIC POWER COMMUNITY” TO REFER TO PRACTICING ENGINEERS AND TECHNICIANS, CORPORATE MANAGERS AND EXECUTIVES, REGULATORS, AND COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY EDUCATORS AND STUDENTS. WE USE “HVDC DOMAIN” TO REFER TO HVDC TECHNOLOGIES, DESIGN AND PLANNING METHODS, IMPLEMENTATION PROCEDURES, OPERATING APPROACHES, AND TECHNICAL, ECONOMIC, REGULATORY, SOCIAL, AND POLITICAL IMPACTS OF DEPLOYING HVDC. THE OVERALL WORK SCOPE WILL HAVE AT ITS CORE COMPLETION OF 35 HIGH-QUALITY MODULES DURING THE 3-YEAR PERIOD. PRIMARY AUTHORS OF THESE MODULES WILL BE EXPERIENCED FACULTY AND INDUSTRY ENGINEERS; EACH MODULE WILL BE COMPLETED BY A LEAD AUTHOR AND AT LEAST 2 CO-AUTHORS DRAWING ON AN INTEGRATION OF FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS TOGETHER WITH A RICH COMPLEMENT OF INDUSTRY-ORIENTED PRACTICES AND APPLICATIONS, FOLLOWED BY RIGOROUS REVIEW BY KNOWLEDGEABLE, EXPERIENCED PEOPLE. EACH MODULE WILL BE FINALIZED VIA COURSE-TESTING (BOTH IN UNIVERSITY COURSES AND IN SHORT COURSES), SOME OF WHICH WILL BE ON-LINE, WHEREBY EACH MODULE WILL BE SUBJECTED TO INSTRUCTIONAL USE IN A UNIVERSITY, COMMUNITY COLLEGE, OR SHORT-COURSE ENVIRONMENT TO SOLICIT STUDENT FEEDBACK.
