HYDROGEN HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS A KEY COMPONENT OF A COMPREHENSIVE PORTFOLIO OF ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES TO SUPPORT THE TRANSITION TO A NET-ZERO EMISSION ECONOMY. ENERGY TRANSITION FROM FOSSIL FUELS TO RENEWABLE SOURCES WILL REQUIRE SIGNIFICANT TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS IN ALL AREAS INCLUDING GREEN HYDROGEN PRODUCTION, STORAGE, TRANSPORT, DELIVERY, SAFETY, AND UTILIZATION. AS AN R1 INSTITUTION AND TOP-RANKED LAND GRANT PUBLIC UNIVERSITY IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND THE NATION, CLEMSON UNIVERSITY HAS BEEN WELL RECOGNIZED FOR ITS STRENGTHS IN FUNDAMENTAL AND APPLIED RESEARCH IN MANY AREAS SUCH AS ADVANCED MANUFACTURING, ADVANCED MATERIALS, SENSORS AND CONTROLS, ENERGY MODELING, ELECTRIC POWER, AND GRID MODERNIZATION. CLEMSON UNIVERSITY ALSO HAS EXISTING FACULTY MEMBERS WHOSE RESEARCH INTERESTS HAVE INCLUDED HYDROGEN AND DECARBONIZATION. THIS PROJECT WILL FURTHER CLEMSON UNIVERSITY’S LEADERSHIP ROLE IN GREEN HYDROGEN AND DECARBONIZATION RESEARCH, EDUCATION, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, AND ECONOMIC ENHANCEMENT. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE PROJECT WILL ALLOW CLEMSON UNIVERSITY TO 1) ENHANCE ITS RESEARCH CAPACITY BY ESTABLISHING CUTTING-EDGE CAPABILITIES DEDICATED TO HYDROGEN AND DECARBONIZATION RESEARCH, AND 2) LEVERAGE THE EXISTING STRENGTHS AT CLEMSON UNIVERSITY AND CONDUCTING SYNERGISTIC RESEARCH AND EDUCATION/WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT IN NEXT GENERATION HYDROGEN TECHNOLOGIES. THE PROJECT WILL ADVANCE THE TECHNOLOGIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE PRODUCTION, STORAGE, TRANSPORT, DELIVERY, AND UTILIZATION OF HYDROGEN, ASSISTING DECARBONIZATION GOALS OF REGIONAL STAKEHOLDERS, PROMOTING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, THE SOUTHEAST REGION AND THE ENTIRE NATION.
