PRODUCTION OF PLANT FERTILIZERS AND BIOPRODUCTS WITH NITROGEN-FIXING CYANOBACTERIA THE OVERALL OBJECTIVES OF THIS RESEARCH ARE TO DEVELOP A NOVEL AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY BASED ON CULTIVATING N2-FIXING CYANOBACTERIA (‘BLUE-GREEN’ MICROALGAE), WITH THE HARVESTED BIOMASS USED FOR COMMERCIAL BIOSTIMULANTS, BIOFERTILIZERS AND OTHER APPLICATIONS. N2-FIXING STRAINS WILL BE SELECTED THAT EXHIBIT HIGH AND STABLE PRODUCTIVITIES IN OPEN POND CULTURES, THE BIOMASS HARVESTED WITH SIMPLE SCREENS AND/OR SETTLING, AND TESTED FOR USE AS ORGANIC FERTILIZERS, AS CROP BIOSTIMULANTS AND FOR EXTRACTION OF PHYCOCYANIN, A FOOD COLORANT. COSTS, CO2 UTILIZATION, POTENTIAL FOR GREENHOUSE GAS REDUCTIONS, AND ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL BENEFITS WILL BE PROJECTED BASED ON DETAILED ENGINEERING, LIFE CYCLE, AND COMMUNITY BENEFITS STUDIES.
