REMOTE-SENSING TOOLS FOR OPTIMIZING COOPERATIVE CLIMATE CHANGE ABATEMENT RESEARCH AND LEGACY ENERGY LANDSCAPE TRANSFORMATION. THIS PROJECT WILL INTEGRATE US DEFENSE INNOVATION UNIT (DIU) BLUE LIST UNCREWED AERIAL SYSTEMS (UAS) DRONES, REMOTE SENSING TECHNOLOGY, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT. THESE TECHNOLOGIES WILL SUPPORT APPLIED RESEARCH FOCUSING ON DISTRIBUTED AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY DEVELOPMENT, CARBON SEQUESTRATION CAPACITY, AS WELL AS ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION ON LANDS ACROSS THE STATE THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY DEEMED WASTELAND AND/OR UNPRODUCTIVE. THIS PROJECT WILL FACILITATE COLLABORATION WITH ACADEMIC, NON-PROFIT, GOVERNMENT, AND PRIVATE SECTOR PARTNERS INTERESTED IN FINDING THE BEST USE FOR WEST VIRGINIA LANDS THAT HAVE LEGACY ENERGY DEVELOPMENT IMPACTS AND COULD BE TRANSFORMED INTO LANDSCAPES FOR CLIMATE CHANGE ABATEMENT AND SUSTAINABLE/RENEWABLE ENERGY DEVELOPMENT.
