INFLATION REDUCTION ACT (IRA) – METHANE MITIGATION DEMONSTRATION USING LINEAR MOTOR COMPRESSOR. THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEPLOY AND TEST A NOVEL, LOW COST, LINEAR MOTOR METHANE MITIGATION COMPRESSOR TO CAPTURE A WIDE VARIETY OF LEAKS ACROSS THE NATURAL GAS VALUE CHAIN, INCLUDING FROM RECIPROCATING COMPRESSORS AND PNEUMATIC CONTROLLERS THAT ARE AMONG THE LARGEST METHANE EMITTERS. USING A LOW COST, RELIABLE METHANE MITIGATION COMPRESSOR, THESE LEAKS CAN BE CAPTURED FROM THE VENTILATION SYSTEMS AT LEGACY AND NEWLY INSTALLED TRANSMISSION, STORAGE, GATHERING, AND PROCESSING FACILITIES, AND COMPRESSED BACK INTO THE PIPELINE. BECAUSE OF THE UNIQUE FLEXIBILITY OF THIS TECHNOLOGY, THE COMPRESSOR CAN ALSO BE USED TO RECOVER EMISSIONS FROM PLANNED EVENTS SUCH AS BLOWDOWNS THAT ARE REQUIRED TO PERFORM REGULAR MAINTENANCE. THESE PLANNED EVENTS ARE FREQUENTLY THE SINGLE LARGEST SOURCE OF EMISSIONS AT A SITE AND CAN BE AVOIDED IF THE GAS TRAPPED IN THE EQUIPMENT IS COMPRESSED DOWNSTREAM RATHER THAN VENTED INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. THIS PROJECT WILL VALIDATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE TECHNOLOGY IN A VARIETY OF RELEVANT ENVIRONMENTS, AS WELL AS IDENTIFY AND QUANTIFY THE WIDE-RANGING APPLICATIONS FOR ITS USE.
