THE OVERARCHING GOAL OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP REVERSIBLE METAL HYDRIDES THAT CAN BE DEHYDROGENATED AND RECHARGED AT RELATIVELY LOW TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES. THE RESEARCH OBJECTIVES ARE: (1) TO FABRICATE NANOSCALE MAGNESIUM BORIDE POWDERS WITH VARIOUS B/MG ATOMIC RATIOS USING MECHANICALLY-ACTIVATED SELF-PROPAGATING HIGH-TEMPERATURE SYNTHESIS (MASHS); (2) TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECTS OF B/MG ATOMIC RATIO AND PARTICLE SIZE ON THE HYDROGENATION AND DEHYDROGENATION PROPERTIES OF THE OBTAINED MAGNESIUM BORIDES.
