TECHNICAL, ECONOMIC, AND MANUFACTURING JUSTIFICATION FOR A MW-SCALE PILOT FACILITY WITH AEROGEL INSULATED RECEIVERS. SPECIFIC GOALS FOR THIS PROJECT INCLUDE: DEVELOP A STANDARD-LENGTH PARABOLIC TROUGH RECEIVER PROTOTYPE THAT IS READY FOR FUTURE TESTING ON SUN. DEVELOP A SCALABLE AND COST-EFFECTIVE PROCESS SUITABLE FOR A FUTURE PILOT MANUFACTURING LINE (~10 MW/YR CAPACITY). SHOW THAT PERFORMANCE, LIFETIME, AND COST OF THE DESIGN IS CONSISTENT WITH THE GOAL OF $0.05/KWH GIVEN EXPECTED IMPROVEMENTS IN NON-RECEIVER COSTS (E.G., INCREASES OVERALL PLANT EFFICIENCY BY 20-30%, INCREASES CAPEX OF EXISTING RECEIVERS BY 5%, MAINTAINS CURRENT O&M). IDENTIFY KEY PARTNERS FOR A MW-SCALE PILOT DEMONSTRATION PLANT, INCLUDING PROCESS HEAT MARKETS AND DROP-IN REPLACEMENT FOR EXISTING PLANTS (PTC/OIL).
