OSCILLA POWER, INC. (OPI) WILL INTEGRATE SPECIFIC INNOVATIONS IDENTIFIED FOR PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT THAT HAVE BEEN PROVEN AND VALIDATED THROUGH PRIOR DOE WATER POWER TECHNOLOGIES OFFICE (WPTO) GRANTS, DE-EE0007346, DE-EE0008387 AND DE-EE0008625, INTO A DETAILED ENGINEERING DESIGN FOR ITS UTILITY-SCALE TRITON™ WAVE ENERGY CONVERTER (WEC). OPI’S TRITON™ WEC IS A TWO-BODY POINT ABSORBER THAT CONSISTS OF A SURFACE FLOAT AND VERTICALLY ASYMMETRIC REACTION STRUCTURE CONNECTED BY THREE FLEXIBLE TENDONS. THE DEVICE OPERATES IN MULTIPLE MODES (HEAVE, PITCH/ROLL, SURGE), ALLOWING IT TO CAPTURE ENERGY FROM WAVES EFFICIENTLY ACROSS A WIDE RANGE OF OCEAN CONDITIONS. THREE DRIVETRAINS IN THE SURFACE FLOAT ARE CONNECTED INDEPENDENTLY TO THE TENDONS AND DESIGNED TO CONVERT CAPTURED MECHANICAL ENERGY RELIABLY AND EFFICIENTLY INTO GRID FRIENDLY ELECTRICAL POWER. BASED ON EXTENSIVE NUMERICAL MODELING VALIDATED BY EXTENSIVE (AND INDEPENDENT) TANK TESTING AT MULTIPLE SCALES, THE TRITON IS PROJECTED TO DELIVER SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER ANNUAL ENERGY PRODUCTION (AEP) THAN CONVENTIONAL WECS OF THE SAME SCALE. THE PROJECT WILL DEVELOP A DETAILED DESIGN FOR A SYSTEM THAT IS PRE-PERMITTED AT PACWAVE TESTING FACILITY AND GENERATE CONSTRUCTION READY DESIGN DRAWINGS.
