THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO OPEN-WATER TEST AND VALIDATE A NEW TYPE OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RESONANT POWER TAKE-OFF WAVE ENERGY CONVERTER COMPONENT TECHNOLOGY. THE ELECTROMAGNETIC RESONANT POWER TAKE-OFF CONSISTS OF A HIGH GEAR-RATIO MAGNETIC GEAR GENERATOR AND AN ADJUSTABLE MAGNETIC SPRING. THE PROJECT WILL COMPLETE OPEN-WATER COMPONENT TESTING AT PACWAVE-SOUTH AND VALIDATE THE PERFORMANCE CAPABILITIES OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC RESONANT POWER TAKE-OFF TECHNOLOGY TO A TECHNICAL READINESS LEVEL OF 8. TO MITIGATE RISK, LABORATORY TESTING AND WATER-TANK TESTING AT OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY WILL ALSO BE CONDUCTED. THE TESTING AIMS TO SHOW THAT BY USING THE ELECTROMAGNETIC RESONANT POWER TAKE-OFF, WITH CONJUGATE CONTROL TECHNIQUES, THE WAVE ENERGY CONVERTER IS CAPABLE OF GENERATING POWER WITH A PEAK-TO-AVERAGE POWER RATIO OF ONLY 3:1.
