DEVELOPING PARAMETRIC SOURCE FUNCTIONS FOR WAVE ENERGY CONVERTERS BECAUSE MARINE ANIMALS EMPLOY SOUND FOR A RANGE OF BIOLOGICAL FUNCTIONS, ANTHROPOGENIC INFLUENCES ON UNDERWATER SOUNDSCAPES ARE OF REGULATORY AND SOCIETAL CONCERN. THESE ANTHROPOGENIC INFLUENCES INCLUDE NOISE RADIATED BY WAVE ENERGY CONVERTERS (WECS). CONSEQUENTLY, MOST WAVE ENERGY DEVELOPMENTS, INCLUDING PACWAVE SOUTH, ARE REQUIRED TO CONDUCT ACOUSTIC MONITORING TO IDENTIFY AND MITIGATE IMPACTS. HOWEVER, THE INTERNATIONAL CONSENSUS STANDARDS (IEC 62600-40) ARE ONLY CAPABLE OF QUANTIFYING, IN A CONSISTENT MANNER, RECEIVED LEVELS IN THE VICINITY OF WEC. THIS DOES NOT ALLOW TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPERS OR ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATORS TO DEFINITIVELY ATTRIBUTE RADIATED NOISE TO A WEC OR UNDERSTAND HOW THESE RECEIVED LEVELS MIGHT CHANGE WITH OPERATIONAL (E.G., CONTROL STRATEGY) OR ENVIRONMENTAL (E.G., SEA STATE) COVARIATES. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP PARAMETRIC SOURCE FUNCTIONS THAT CAN PREDICT RADIATED NOISE FROM A WEC USING OPERATIONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL COVARIATES.
