DUKE UNIVERSITY PROPOSES TWO EXPERIMENTS TO IMPROVE THE AVAILABLE NUCLEAR DATA AND RESOLVE PRESSING ISSUES OF THE FISSION PROCESS. THE FIRST PROJECT IS PRECISE MEASUREMENTS OF FISSION CROSS-SECTION RATIOS WITH <1.5% UNCERTAINTY, WHICH IS IMPERATIVE TO IMPROVE THE ACCURACY OF THE NUCLEAR DATA INFRASTRUCTURE. THE SECOND PROJECT IS DEVELOPMENT OF A POSITION SENSITIVE DUAL FRISCH-GRID IONIZATION CHAMBER TO PERFORM MEASUREMENTS OF FISSION FRAGMENT YIELDS, TOTAL KINETIC ENERGIES, ANGULAR DISTRIBUTIONS, PROMPT FISSION ¿-RAY SPECTRA, AND CORRELATIONS BETWEEN THESE OBSERVABLES.
