THE OVERARCHING GOALS OF THIS PROJECT ARE: (1) TO EDUCATE THE NEXT GENERATION OF NUCLEAR PHYSICISTS WITH EXPERTISE IN PERFORMING NEUTRON-INDUCED REACTION CROSS-SECTION MEASUREMENTS; (2) TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE MODERNIZATION OF THE U.S. NUCLEAR DATA PROGRAM USING THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THE FACILITIES AVAILABLE AT THE TRIANGLE UNIVERSITIES NUCLEAR LABORATORY (TUNL), E.G., HIGH-INTENSITY QUASI-MONOENERGETIC NEUTRON-BEAMS, SUPERIOR HPGE DETECTORS, DIGITAL ACQUISITION SYSTEMS, A NEWLY ESTABLISHED AUTOMATIC AND FAST SAMPLE-IRRADIATED TRANSFER SYSTEM FOR SHORT-LIVED DECAY SPECTROSCOPY (RABITTS); AND (3) TO DEVELOP TECHNIQUES AND INSTRUMENTATION THAT ENABLE NEW TYPES OF MEASUREMENTS. APART FROM THIS, THEY WILL CONTINUE THE FRUITFUL COLLABORATION WITH THE SCIENTISTS FROM LOS ALAMOS AND LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORIES THROUGH THIS PROJECT.
