VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY - NEW AWARD CONTROL NUMBER:1858-2659 ''BIPOLAR MEMBRANES WITH AN ELECTROSPUN 3D JUNCTION'' THE AIMS OF THIS PROJECT ARE TO: (1) FABRICATE BPMS WITH A HIGH INTERFACIAL AREA 3D BIPOLAR JUNCTION USING DUAL NANOFIBER ELECTROSPINNING, (2) OPTIMIZED THE COMPOSITION AND STRUCTURE OF THE BPMS, WHILE FULLY CHARACTERIZING MEMBRANE PERFORMANCE AND PROPERTIES, (3) TEST THE BPMS IN TWO IMPORTANT APPLICATIONS: AS A WATER SPLITTING MEMBRANE IN AN ELECTRODIALYSIS STACK FOR WATER REUSE AND RECOVERY AND AS A SELF-HYDRATING MEMBRANE IN A HYDROGEN/AIR FUEL CELL AND (4) PERFORM MEMBRANE FABRICATION SCALE-UP AT A POLYMER ELECTROSPINNING COMPANY.
