Abstract

The goals of our center are to engage academic and industrial partners in joint efforts to promote in-place care technologies for managing chronic diseases in the patient’s home and accelerate innovation through these partnerships, multi-specialty collaborations, and resource sharing. Through these efforts, we will prepare and educate a workforce able to promote wellness through self-care technologies. Leveraging the strengths and previous work of the University of North Dakota in Innovation-Based Learning, our site focuses on the workforce training needed to care for older adults. To address healthcare access, our C2SHIP collaborative center aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and engage academic and industrial partners in joint efforts to accelerate innovation in decentralized healthcare. This model complements facility-centered care, enabling care delivery at any location where patients are comfortable receiving it. A crucial aspect is utilizing technology to empower patients and caregivers, facilitating improved communication with doctors. This approach can support chronic illness management by fostering interdisciplinary collaborations between engineers and clinicians, sharing resources, and aiding our industrial members in enhancing technology readiness. Through these endeavors, we will also prepare and educate a workforce capable of promoting wellness via self-care technologies. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the Foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.
