THE OBJECTIVE FOR THE PROPOSED WORK IS TO DEVELOP METHODS TO FACILITATE THE QUICK IDENTIFICATION OF NATURAL PRODUCTS IN EXTRACTS AND THE QUICK IDENTIFICATION OF HUMAN PROTEIN TARGETS. BY COMBINING THE ETHOS OF BIG DATA AND -OMICS TECHNOLOGIES WE SHOULD BE ABLE (1) TO ESTABLISH THE CHEMICAL TAXONOMY OF ACTIVE COMPOUNDS IN A NATURAL PRODUCT MIXTURE USING HIGH-RESOLUTION MASS SPECTROMETRY WITH MOLECULAR NETWORKING AND (2) TO IDENTIFY THE HUMAN PROTEIN TARGETS WITHIN THE MIXTURE USING A HUMAN PROTEOME ARRAY CHIP MADE BY PUERTO RICO-BASED COMPANY CDI LABORATORIES. THE PROPOSAL ADDRESSES A CURRENT GAP WITHIN THE ASSIGNED THRUST AREA 7 THROUGH EXPANSION OF THE RESOURCES AND CAPABILITIES AVAILABLE FOR DRUG DISCOVERY AND DEVELOPMENT PIPELINES, AS WELL AS MEDICAL COUNTERMEASURE DEVELOPMENT PLATFORMS. THE TECHNICAL APPROACH FOR THIS PROJECT IS AN INNOVATIVE ONE, WHICH INVOLVES DEVELOPING METHODS TO FACILITATE THE QUICK IDENTIFICATION OF NATURAL PRODUCTS IN EXTRACTS AND THE QUICK IDENTIFICATION OF HUMAN PROTEIN TARGETS.
