Abstract

Investigators from Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, the University of Rhode Island, and the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities plan to carry out an intercalibration exercise as part of the GEOTRACES Program focusing on radionuclides (230Th, 231Pa, 10Be, 239+240Pu, 237Np, 137Cs, 240Pu/239Pu), rare earth elements, and neodymium isotopes. The goal of this intercalibration is to ensure the various sampling, analyses, and storage methods used by different national and international laboratories obtain results that are accurate, precise, and internally consistent. In terms of broader impacts, the outcome of the proposed activities would provide the science community with the necessary protocols to accurately and precisely measure radionuclide, rare earth elements, and neodymium isotopes that can be compared/contrasted regardless of which laboratory generated the data.
