REU SITE: Summer Internships in Robotics and Autonomous Systems
California Polytechnic State University Foundation, San Luis Obispo CA
Investigators
Abstract
This three-year REU Site program will allow ten undergraduate students per year to participate in research focused on robotics and autonomous systems. The objectives of the program are to: 1) engage undergraduate students in research on robotics; 2) encourage students from community colleges to continue their study toward a BS degree; 3) encourage Cal Poly students to continue on to graduate school; and 4) contribute to the development of well-trained people from underrepresented minorities or women. The undergraduate students experience will be enriched by seminars and workshops to enable the students to obtain a broad perspective of the fields of robotics and autonomous systems. The program will also include a number of social activities to encourage communication among the students. Recruitment efforts will be targeted to two local community colleges with little or no research activity, with an emphasis on minority students and women.
