Abstract

An award has been made to the College of William and Mary under the direction of Dr. Martha Case to acquire new herbarium cabinets and a plant dryer for the collection, and to fund the move of the herbarium into newly renovated space on campus. The plant dryer will aid in the preparation of specimens for the collection. The new cabinets will ensure protection and storage of the dried plant specimens for at least two decades. The collection of some 76,000 plant specimens, mostly from Virginia, is a regionally important collection of plants that is valuable in research, education, and resource management. Students at the college regularly use the collection in their coursework, and the school has an record of preparing students for graduate study in plant science.
