Abstract
0727861 Andreescu This International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) proposal will support U.S. undergraduate students from Clarkson University to conduct research at the BIOMEM-Centre de Phytopharmacie at the University of Perpignan in Perpignan, France. It is part of a collaborative effort with Purdue University. Altogether, four U.S. undergraduate students, two from Clarkson and two from Purdue, will be hosted by the BIOMEM group for 10 weeks each summer over a three-year-period. Students will conduct research to develop ultra-sensitive, field-deployable biochemical systems for the monitoring of newly identified toxic, environmental, and food contaminants. This will give students a hands-on experience for developing today's new technology and expose them to present-day global environmental problems.
