Abstract
Roche and King plan a three-year research program focusing on the experimental study of the electro-weak structure of the proton at the Jefferson Laboratory. The project will provide data relevant to the quark flavor content of the proton (G0 experiment) and the correlation between the momentum and the spatial distributions of the quarks within the proton (DVCS experiment). Finally, this research will also contribute to the measurement of the weak charge of the proton (QWEAK experiment). This last measurement provides data relevant to the search for a new Standard Model of particle physics. Technically, the group will perform data analysis for G0, data acquisition and analysis projects for QWEAK and hardware development of the photon detector for DVCS. NSF also supports a graduate student and two undergraduate students to work on these research projects with King and Roche.
