CBET-0720480 Title: Laser Diagnostics in Combustion, 2007 Gordon Research Conference PI: Volker Sick Institution: Gordon Research Conferences Funds are provided for partial support for support of student travel and participation in the Gordon Conference on Laser Diagnostics in Combustion to be held on August 12-17 in Oxford, UK. The NSF funds will be targeted to provide partial travel support to graduate students. Combustion research is a multi-disciplinary field encompassing diverse disciplines in engineering and science, and laser diagnostics plays a vital role in this field. Society relies on combustion for power generation, transportation, and manufacturing. This conference allows laser-diagnostics-focused researchers to exchange ideas in a stimulating technical forum. The intellectual merit of this activity arises from the participation of combustion experts in laser diagnostics from across the United States and from various countries, their communications with students, and their visions of future research directions. By encouraging the participation of students with partial travel support, we are developing and training the next generation of researchers.
