Abstract

This Small Business Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I research project aims to develop an improved method for generating platelet concentrates for transfusion that reduces platelet activation. This will be achieved by simultaneously combining mixing and centrifugation to prevent platelet pelleting. The proposed methodology may improve the quality of platelet rich plasma platelet concentrates, improve their storage stability, and potentially enhance medical outcomes for patients receiving platelet transfusions.
