Abstract

This Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase I research project aims to develop a fibrous material for the embedment and gradual release of appropriate genetic material, including small interfering RNA (siRNA), and viral vectors carrying genes for anti-inflammatory molecules, from coronary stents and prosthetic grafts. With over one million stents, and 70,000 prosthetic grafts placed each year, development of a reliable material that can release biological entities such as viral vectors and siRNA can be of large benefit for the millions of individuals suffering from heart disease and other occlusive ailments.
