Abstract

In this award, funded by the Experimental Physical Chemistry Program of the Chemistry Division, Prof. Gary A. Lorigan of Miami University of Ohio and his postdoctoral graduate and undergraduate student colleagues will use EPR spectroscopy to study the structural and dynamic properties of membrane-bound proteins. The information from these studies will help to understand how these ubiquitous proteins function under physiological conditions. Besides the broader scientific impact of the research, Prof. Lorigan will specifically target undergraduate students from groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences for inclusion in his research group during the summer. He will do this through working with his Departmental NSF-REU Program, the University Hughes Program, and through the PI's informal contacts with Central State University.
