Abstract

This award partially supports a series of three national and international Frontiers of Engineering (FoE) Symposia by the National Academy of Engineering. They are: German-American, April 26-28, 2007 in Hamburg, Germany; U.S., September 24-26, 2007 at Microsoft Company, Redmond, WA; and Japan-American, November 5-7, 2007, at HP Lab in Palo Alto, CA.. Many important and timely topics at the frontiers of engineering research and innovation will be covered, such as brain research and human behavior simulation, rocketry and aerospace technologies, smart and biomedical materials, engineering trustworthy computer and information systems, robotics and human-computer interaction, energy resources and drinking water safety, battery and biofuel technologies, etc. Between 60 and 100 outstanding young engineers will be involved in each Symposium. The meetings will create the opportunities for sharing of research insights and techniques that may spur collaboration and serve as a reference point for many of the emerging frontiers work in the U.S.
