Abstract

A five day workshop will be held in Costa Rica in July 2007 in order to integrate Subduction Factory (SubFac) and Seismogenic Zone (SEIZE) research conducted along the convergent margin of Costa Rica. Such an effort to integrate and synthesize the MARGINS efforts in Central America have been recommended by the MARGINS external review committee as the next step in MARGINS science program. Thus, the workshop will be the first integration and synthesis workshop proposed for the MARGINS program that will review and synthesize Central American studies over the past five years. The meeting will also include the results of several major geophysical experiments presently underway. Approximately a 100 participants, including young investigators and graduate students as well as experienced researchers from the US, Germany and Central America will participate. The synthesis is planned to be published in a book to benefit the broader community.
