Abstract

This project is focused on the development of a structurally novel class of heterocycles, oxadiazines, as chiral auxiliaries. The specific objectives include: (1) the synthesis of three different sub-groups of oxadiazines; (2) application of the oxadiazines in three different types of asymmetric reactions; (3) the synthesis of the histamine H3 antagonist GT-2331. With this award, the Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry Program and the Alliances for Broadening Participation in STEM (ABP) are supporting the research of Professor Shawn R. Hitchcock, of the Department of Chemistry at Illinois State University. Professor Hitchcock's research efforts revolve around the development of new reactions for asymmetric synthesis. The project is of considerable significance to the pharmaceutical industry, as it could impact how medicines are prepared.
