Abstract
OISE-0618295 (Louie, Steven; University of California at Berkeley) U.S.-Taiwan Workshop on Frontiers in Nanosciences ABSTRACT This award supports the convening of a U.S.-Taiwan Workshop on Frontiers in Nanosciences in Taiwan in December 2006. Eighteen U.S. scientists-both theorists and experimentalists, including senior and junior faculty and three graduate students-will join a comparable number of scientists on the Taiwan side to compare recent research results as well as near-term research priorities and strategies with an aim of identifying areas for collaboration. The workshop will include sessions on novel nanomaterials, theory and modeling of Nanoscale phenomena, nanomechanical devices, nanophotonics, and nanomagnetism. Workshop participants will also visit several core nanotech facilities in the Taipei area, including the National Taiwan University Center for Microscopy and Nano-Analysis and National Chiao-Tung University UST Core Facility for NanoFabrication and Nano Characterization. Dr. T.K. Lee, Executive Director of Taiwan's National Program on Nanoscience and Technology, will serve as co-organizer of the workshop.
