Abstract
This is a Small Grant for Exploratory Research for Joan Stevenson, Western Washington University, to explore the archival collection associated with the Section 14(h)(1) of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971 for social, cultural and economic information associated with reindeer herding in the 20th Century. The 14(h)(1) archive consists of site reports, documents, and oral history tapes collected by federally funded social science researchers as part of the ANCSA process. The research is exploratory in nature in order to determine the extent of information on reindeer herding that exists in the archive in preparation for more extensive research on this topic.
