Abstract

0623766 and 0623237 Giosan and Mullenbach Abstract The PIs will participate in an already funded cruise to investigate the shelf of the Indus Delta. The objective is to learn how in its early stages the subaqueous delta developed overcoming rapid sea-level rise, due to highly increased sediment flux in the deglacial phase following the last glacial maximum. The PIs will also investigate the effect of upstream damming on the delta for the last half century. The study will provide new information on sediment dispersal system on a major river of the world and how climate and sediment input, driven by tectonics, influences the deltaic architecture. Broader impacts include strong international collaboration with both UK and Pakistan and extensive educational efforts in the US and Pakistan.
