Abstract

This experimental research program takes advantage of the confluence of intense laser fields of ultra-wide spectral bandwidth, pulse shaping and adaptive feedback, to provide nearly limitless possibilities for exploration, manipulation and engineering of many-particle dynamics at the quantum level. The program involves a series of experiments to follow transient states of systems with Coulomb explosion imaging on a time scale commensurate with internal atomic motion while executing control over branching ratios, molecular geometries and energy transfer between fundamental modes of oscillation. The broader impact of the program involves graduate and undergraduate training as well as significant efforts to attract underrepresented groups into the program and applications to the detection of small concentrations of trace elements in the atmosphere.
