Abstract
Yock 0602079 The project will support the Biomedical Engineering - Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Alliance Meeting (BME-IDEA) in October 2006. The theme of the 2006 conference is Fostering Innovation - Opportunities for Biomedical Engineers to Address Clinical Needs in Underserved Populations in the US as well as Developing Countries. The alliance meeting is designed to collect and to share information and data about biomedical courses, curriculum, technology innovation, design, prototyping, testing, evaluation, entrepreneurship and associated social/ethical issues. These alliance meetings impact the education for biomedical engineering innovation. The alliance meeting goals are: 1) Continue collecting data from different university programs involved in innovation, design, technology transfer and entrepreneurship in biomedical engineering. 2) Discuss objectives, challenges, and opportunities for further development of these programs including industry and academic perspectives. 3) Continue to explore the potential for sharing resources and creating community-wide assets and tools and recruit participants in the existing collaborative efforts (e.g. bmesource web portal, the design contest, IP survey)
