Abstract

Representatives from the Antarctic space physics/aeronomy community propose a scientific workshop in November, 2006 (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, FL) where they plan to define and develop a blueprint for a more unified scientific enterprise in this field for the South Pole Station. This workshop will bring together various diverse space physics groups to discuss the current state of space physics/aeronomy projects at South Pole, identify science drivers for future research, and generate recommendations about increasing the visibility of space physics/aeronomy research. The ultimate goal will be to develop a more cohesive and collaborative environment for space sciences in Antarctica. The workshop's intellectual merit is in identifying challenges the community faces, and see perspectives that can help stimulating creative dialogue between community members and with funding agencies. The workshop's broader impact is expected to be in facilitating collaboration among various space physics and aeronomy groups around the country which have stakes in South Pole observations.
