Acquisition of a Confocal Microscope
University Of New Hampshire, Durham NH
Investigators
Abstract
A grant has been awarded to the University of New Hampshire under the direction of Dr. Stacia A. Sower to acquire a confocal microscope for research and teaching. Nine major users will take advantage of the capability of the microscope to use fluorescence in studies of cellular processes and structure in plants, animal vision, neuron structure, brain hormones, and in symbiosis of microbes and their animal hosts. The microscope will enhance the ability of the researchers to localize structures and processes of interest through the use of fluorescent labeling methods. Undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students will use the new instrument in their research, and the microscope will be used in laboratory sections of molecular biology and biochemistry courses.
